Aida has a big happy heart. She enjoys everything with enthusiasm. She is joy to watch and makes us smile every day. I don't regret for a moment that we took her home at the first glance. It feels like she's always lived with us. Aida loves to the fullest and we love her back.
I found Aida through a Dutch website with dogs for adoption. "Swiffer" looked like a nice and sweet dog, right age and sex for our pack. She was found outside alone and lived in a shelter near the German border for six weeks. Someone obviously had taken care of her before since she could sit, lay down and she was clean in the house. However she didn't have a microchip or a collar and during those six weeks no-one had been asking for her. So she became a member of our family.
Aida loves running. She has a strong sprint and sight instinct. She is also very agile and acrobatic, being able to jump really high fences. Like a Labrador retriever, she finds splashing around in water and fetching sticks very interesting. She loves running in shallow water, the bigger the splash the better. At home, like greyhounds and ridgebacks she is content to just relax on the couch bellyside up. Therbeeds in Aida are however unknown. Obviously she could be half ridgeback, because of the ridge on her back. Other good guesses are sighthound, retriever, beauceron and dobermann.
Aida is very eager to please (me). She is very happy and has a sence of humour. Her long and strong tail waggs like crazy and sweeps glasses and papers off the sofatable. Aida gets hyper excited very easily, whether it's about petting, feeding, going out or just by looking at her. Nothing will happen though before her rear is on the floor and she is calm.
Aida is strongly attached to her family and she is reserved (but not fearful) against strangers. She is very cuddly and obviously thinks she is a small lapdog. She likes to get very, very close, to sit in my lap or put her head in my arm pit. She is also very happy to sleep beside me.
Aida has arthritis in her right shoulder joint due to a growth disorder. Because of this she sometimes has to take it easy and isn't allowed to run too much every day, since it causes pain and limping. We also found out that Aida's right hip joint is quite bad. Luckily this doesn't cause her any problems at the moment.
Since Aida loves running, she get's to go lure-coursing now and then. She attended a competition organized by the Ridgeback Club of Finland. Her time on 150 meters was 12,54 seconds.
